Sad News: Cardinals Fear The Worst As Star Leaves Game After Nasty Collision

After colliding with teammate Jordan Walker in a Cardinals-Cubs spring training game, Dylan Carlson had a scare.

Jordan Walker and Dylan Carlson, two outfielders for the St. Louis Cardinals, collided terrifyingly while trying to catch a fly ball during Monday’s spring training game against the Chicago Cubs. According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Carlson was reportedly kicked out of the game after the incident.

Jordan Walker and Dylan Carlson collide in the outfield in the right-center gap. Carlson is thrown onto the warning track by Walker as he dives for the ball and strikes his legs. Carlson is about to exit the match. On X (formerly Twitter), Goold wrote, “Neither of them catches the ball.”

Carlson was replaced by outfielder Michael Siani, according to John Denton of MLB.com.

St. Louis is already struggling with injuries from Tommy Edman and Lars Nootbaar, so losing Carlson would be a huge blow.Carlson looked to have fallen on his shoulder, but it’s currently unknown what kind of injury he sustained. Walker looks to have escaped harm after the impact.

Dylan Carlson’s impact on Cardinals

Carlson has ability. But he has experienced his fair share of highs and lows in the Major League Baseball.

In 2023, Carlson made just 76 appearances. He had a scorching.219/.318/.333/.651 campaign in ’23. Nevertheless, it appears like St. Louis will give him a chance in 2024. Naturally, the expectation was that Carlson would continue to be healthy and play at a higher level every time.

He struggled in 2022 as well, but in 2021 he showed flashes of promise. Carlson hit.266/.343/.437/.780 that season. He also contributed 31 doubles and 18 home homers.

For now, the Cardinals are hopeful that Monday’s game yields the greatest outcome imaginable.

Unfortunately, injuries had a part in Carlson’s disappointing ’23 season. He talked about his injury-plagued 2023 season earlier, according to John Denton of MLB.com.

“Every season is significant and vital, but given my current situation, I know it’s critical for me to perform and show what I’m capable of doing after this injury,” Carlson remarked. “What matters is my ability to demonstrate that I can still contribute to this team’s victories.”

St. Louis’ outfield uncertainty

If Carlson is need to miss any time, the Cardinals will have some explaining to do. Walker’s offensive potential will keep him on the major league roster even though he is not the finest defensive outfielder.

The Cardinals already had injuries to contend with in their roster, with Edman and Nootbaar. Walker might start alongside Michael Siani and Brendan Donovan if Carlson is late.

Although St. Louis has other possibilities, they probably intended for Carlson and Walker to start the season as the starting outfielders. The Cardinals aim to recover from their dismal 2023 campaign. However, injuries will surely not make things better.

We will continue to monitor and provide updates on Dylan Carlson’s injury situation as they are made available.
