BREAKING: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Agree Deal To Sign $70 Million Edge Rusher

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in a peculiar building, but they are not rebuilding; they are changing guards while still wanting the fundamental bones of a squad that not only won Super Bowl LV, but also astonished much of the NFL world by making the Divisional round of the playoffs last year.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Looking To Improve And Still Move Forward

The Bucs have been very selective in their new additions this free agency season, bringing in only five players, including projected starting guard Sua Opeta, who impressed as a rotational player for the Philadelphia Eagles, and returning safety Jordan Whitehead, who left for the New York Jets in 2022.

Following the departure of veteran linebacker Shaq Barrett, the two-time Super Bowl champions sought to add another prominent player to their outer linebacking corps.

And Tampa Bay has done just that, according to Jordan Schultz, by signing former Dallas Cowboy and Denver Bronco Randy Gregory.

Randy Gregory Aiming To Get His Career Back On Track With The Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Randy Gregory was ecstatic after a good 2021 season with the Dallas Cowboys resulted in a 5-year, $70 million contract with the Denver Broncos.

However, after failing to make much of an impact in the AFC West, collecting only three sacks in 1.5 seasons in Colorado, head coach Sean Payton traded him to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for late-round picks in this year’s draft.

Although he and fellow edge acquisition Chase Young fared well throughout the year, neither were retained for 2024.

For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, this is unquestionably a wise decision: bringing in some high-quality, veteran backup for young starters Joe Tryon-Shoyinka and promising rookie YaYa Diaby, who managed 7.5 sacks in his first season in the NFL.

Gregory is unlikely to affect the overall dynamic of the Bucs’ defensive line, but he does provide some hands to an outside linebacking group that is currently more potential than outcomes.
