Report: Wildcat top talented player enters transfer portal

Lance Ware, a former Wildcat, has entered the transfer portal. He started at Kentucky and later moved to Villanova.

Lance Ware is back at the gateway.

According to 24/7 High School Hoops, Ware is joining the transfer portal after one season with the Villanova Wildcats.

Ware started his career with the Kentucky Wildcats.
Originally a top 50 prospect in the class of 2020 from Camden High School in New Jersey, Ware chose UK over Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, Maryland, and Miami, among others. In 77 career games (seven starts) with Lexington, he averaged 1.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 0.4 blocks in 9.2 minutes.

After the 2022-23 season concluded, Ware decided to use the transfer portal in the hopes of getting more playing time. He eventually signed with Villanova, but the larger position never materialized.

In 33 games this season (no starts), Ware averaged 1.2 points (48.3% shooting) and 2.3 rebounds in 10.5 minutes.

I’m curious if Ware would consider returning to Kentucky if he was comfortable with his 5-10 minute per game job as emergency depth, but he’s far more likely to look at smaller schools where he can perhaps carve out a meaningful role for the first time in his career.
