Former Chiefs punter gets contract with Texans
KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) Tommy Townsend, the former Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro punter, has found a new home.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Townsend has agreed to a two-year, $6 million agreement to punt for the Texans.

Townsend became an unrestricted free agent after four seasons with the Chiefs. He joined with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent from Florida.

He was chosen an All-Pro for the 2022 season and punted in three Super Bowl appearances and two Super Bowl triumphs for Kansas City.
The Chiefs signed punter Matt Araiza in February, after he was cleared of sexual misconduct claims after being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Chiefs will sign ex-Texans safety Justin Reid, while Tyrann Mathieu is expected to leave (UPI, March 14).

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed former Houston Texans star safety Justin Reid to a multi-year contract.

On Monday night, league sources confirmed to ESPN, NFL Media, and Pro Football Network that Reid has agreed to a three-year, $31.5 million contract with the Chiefs, with $20 million guaranteed. The team has yet to finalize the agreement, which is subject to a physical.
With the hiring of Reid, the Chiefs are anticipated to part ways with All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu, who became an unrestricted free agency this offseason. According to ESPN, Kansas City never offered Mathieu a new contract because the team wanted to take a different approach.

Reid, 25, played his first four NFL seasons for the Texans, who took him in the third round of the 2018 draft. In 57 career games, he has 315 tackles, seven interceptions, 23 pass breakups, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.

The Chiefs are likely to start Reid versus fellow safety Juan Thornhill.

Mathieu, a third-round pick in 2013, has spent the last three seasons with Kansas City, following one year in Houston (2018) and five with the Arizona Cardinals (2013-17). He has 609 tackles, 26 interceptions, 76 passes defensed, 10 sacks, four forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries in 129 career games.
