Breaking: Raiders To Sign $51 Million WR As Free Agent

Following the draft, teams can solve any remaining needs by signing free players. The Raiders are doing exactly that at the receiving position.

ESPN.com reports that the Raiders have agreed to terms with receiver Michael Gallup. It’s a one-year, $3 million contract.

The Cowboys released Gallup in March. He had 34 receptions for 418 yards and two scores in 2023.

In 2022, the Cowboys signed him to a five-year contract worth $51 million. After two unsuccessful seasons, the Cowboys moved on.

Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers lead the depth chart in Las Vegas. They didn’t choose any receivers last week.

Raiders Meet With WR Jalen Guyton

Jalen Guyton’s five-year time with the Chargers was marked by an ACL tear, which led to his departure as the team transitioned to the Brandon Staley era. However, the general manager who brought in the former UDFA has put him back on the radar.

ESPN.com’s Field Yates tweeted that the Raiders spoke with Guyton during their visit on Monday. In 2019, Tom Telesco brought in Guyton as a UDFA, and the North Texas alum became a significant Justin Herbert target in 2020-21. The 6-foot-1 pass catcher was sidelined in Week 3 of 2022 due to an ACL rupture.

Guyton, 26, managed to return last season — after being re-signed — but was not activated off the Chargers’ reserve/PUP list until early November. Despite the Chargers playing most of the season without Mike Williams and losing Keenan Allen late in the campaign, Guyton finished last season with just 10 receptions for 89 yards.

He was a far more viable option earlier in his Bolts career. Guyton made 28 catches for 511 yards in 2020 and 31 grabs for 448 yards in 2021, scoring three touchdowns each season. Guyton, most known for being on the receiving end of a Herbert laser that flew 60 yards or more in the air against the Giants in 2021, is currently a flier. Nonetheless, he is more than 18 months removed from his significant knee injury.

Although the Raiders released Hunter Renfrow this summer, they remain open to trading for Davante Adams. Las Vegas’ top priority is to sign the All-Pro weapon. Jakobi Meyers, a 2023 free agent with ties to the former Josh McDaniels administration, is in the second year of a three-year, $33MM contract. This year, the Raiders did not draft a wide receiver and did not make any major free agent signings. Guyton, who has ties to Telesco and former Chargers front office lieutenant/interim GM JoJo Wooden, is a low-cost supplementary option.
