Breaking: Panthers Closing In On Deal To Sign $14.6 Million Free Agent CB

A reunion with the Rock Hill native is not out of the question for Carolina.

Through last weekend’s NFL Draft, Carolina Panthers general manager Dan Morgan was able to take care of the majority of the team’s needs. In addition to having Jonathan Brooks as a backfield option, they were able to provide Bryce Young with two receiving possibilities in the form of Xavier Legette and Ja’Tavion Sanders.

Early in the draft, the emphasis was on strengthening the offensive line, which deferred to other needs like cornerback and edge rusher positions. When Carolina chose Chau Smith-Wade of Washington State in the fifth round, they did have one advantage.

Morgan exclaimed, “We’re really excited about Chau.” Chau is a versatile player who can play both indoors and outdoors, which is why we loved him. Well done, special teams. He seems like a guy who could truly help and improve us.”

Though he informed the media during his first news conference that the Panthers intend to use him in a variety of situations, he will probably start at nickel in back of Troy Hill. It follows that outside assistance is still needed for the Panthers. Stephon Gilmore, a former Panther and seasoned free agent, joins the discussion at this point. It’s still possible, Morgan says, to get Gilmore back home.

We’re going to try to get better at every position, not just the corner position, you know. However, I’m going to try once again to instill competition and depth everywhere. You know that we won’t shut the door on anything in regards to Stephon; instead, we’ll keep talking, investigating, and seeing where that leads.”
