Breaking: Cardinals Closing In On Deal To Bolster Rotation In Trade For $12 Million Pitcher

Through a trade with the White Sox, St. Louis should aim to strengthen their rotation.

This season, the starting rotation for the St. Louis Cardinals has significantly improved.

Last season, St. Louis had one of the worst rotations in the league, which led to one of the worst seasons in team history. In order to strengthen the rotation, the Cardinals turned to free agency, and this season, Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson have all made an impression.

This isn’t the pitching that’s keeping the Cardinals from winning. This season, St. Louis’ offensive has had significant difficulties. Despite this, the Cardinals should be able to turn things around because they have a lot of potential.

It might make more sense to add than to subtract if the Cardinals are still hoping to make the postseason by the trade deadline. Pitcher Mike Clevinger of the Chicago White Sox is one player who might make some sense. Although he hasn’t played in a game yet this season, Robert Murray of FanSided reports that he may be traded due to the White Sox’s difficulties.

“Among the most obvious trade candidates for the struggling Chicago White Sox include pitcher Mike Clevinger and outfielder Tommy Pham, who both signed one-year contracts after Opening Day,” Murray stated. “Teams in need of experienced catching assistance may consider Martin Maldonado. Teams are expected to look into Erick Fedde, a potentially interesting trade candidate who signed a two-year, $15 million contract this summer and has a 2.60 ERA in six starts.”

Although Clevinger was considered by St. Louis as a potential free agent, he ultimately decided to re-sign with the White Sox. St. Louis might be a good fit if he is dealt because it never hurts to add additional seasoned depth in the closing stages of a game.

With a record 3.45 ERA over seven seasons, the righty has the potential to greatly improve the back end of the Cardinals’ lineup. Although St. Louis must first stabilize its attack, it wouldn’t hurt to add more depth to the rotation.
