Report: Atlanta braves key player is out with injury and might not play again

On May 4, RHP Pierce Johnson was placed on the injured list, while RHP Jackson Stephens was reactivated and LHP Angel Perdomo was transferred to the 60-day IL.
Johnson was placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 1, for right elbow irritation.

Stephens was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett. Stephens made five appearances with the Braves in 2023, recording a 3.00 ERA. He spent the duration of 2024 in Gwinnett, with a strikeout rate of 12.5 K/9 over 9 1/3 innings, and Braves manager Brian Snitker believes he can go many innings at a stretch.
“He has the ability to pitch in any situation we need him to,” Snitker.

To make place on the 40-man roster, Perdomo, who is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, was moved to the 60-day injured list.

RHP Pierce Johnson (right elbow irritation).
Expected return: late May.
The Braves are without a crucial bullpen arm after Johnson was placed on the injured list backdated to May 1. Johnson has thrown 16 strikeouts in 12 innings this season. He had a 0.76 ERA in 24 outings with the Braves last season after being acquired at the trade deadline.

Brian Snitker, the Braves’ manager, stated that Johnson’s ailment will not require an MRI for the time being.

“It’s just rest more than anything.”

“It’s a good bullpen, and he’s one of the reasons why,” Snitker said. “So it’s tough to lose a guy like that.”

C Sean Murphy (left oblique tightness).
Murphy is expected to return in early May, having progressed to swinging a bat and hitting off a tee during his recuperation. He is also doing his catching drills. He is still in the early phases of his rehabilitation, according to Braves manager Brian Snitker, and no timetable for his comeback has been determined. On March 29, the 2023 All-Star catcher swung and missed a pitch against the Phillies, injuring his left oblique.
RHP Spencer Strider (right ulnar collateral ligament).
Expected return: 2025
Strider underwent internal bracing surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow on April 12 and will miss the rest of the 2024 season.

LHP Angel Perdomo underwent Tommy John surgery.
Expected return: 2025
Perdomo was added to the 60-day injured list on May 4. He is rehabilitating from Tommy John surgery performed last October and will miss the whole 2024 season.
