Gabbie Marshall says goodbye to Iowa Women’s Basketball, saying, “Five-year-old me would be so proud.”
Because of the things that Gabbie Marshall has done over the past few years to help an Iowa Hawkeye team that has made history, she is forever remembered in college basketball history. Marshall will be traveling to North Carolina to get a master’s degree in occupational therapy, thus her basketball career is coming to an end.

Marshall, who has been out of basketball for six weeks, finally had time to reflect on everything she has done throughout her five-year tenure as a Hawkeye. In an emotional Instagram post, she peeled back the veil and shared her perspective.
As I approach my final month at Iowa Cit, preparing to embark on the next chapter of my life, I’ve had plenty of time to reflect on all the amazing memories I’ve created, opportunities I’ve been given, people I’ve met, and friendships that will endure forever because of the game of basketball.

“Marshall wrote. “It has been my entire life for the past 18 years, and I value all of the highs and lows, lessons learnt, and everything in between. “My five-year-old self would be so proud of how far I’ve come and what I’ve experienced.”
“Most significantly, I reflect on the path I’ve been on over the last five years, where I’ve been able to realize my aspirations and accomplish far more than I could have dreamed. Thank you Iowa and Hawkeye Nation for being my home away from home, for showing me so much love and support, and for providing the best conclusion to the sport that has defined my life.”

 

Marshall became the first Iowa women’s basketball player to have 200 three-pointers and 200 steals in her career. She was well-known for her defensive abilities, particularly during two deep NCAA Tournament campaigns. While Marshall did not dominate the stat sheet, her ability to be clutch when it counted has always stood out.

When Marshall started shooting from three, Iowa’s offense was lethal. Marshall was not the leading scorer, but her importance to the Hawkeyes was recognized by fans. They gravitated toward her for that. They loved her for it.

The team culture has been one of the most essential aspects under Lisa Bluder. Marshall was part of a graduating class that established the level that Jan Jensen’s crew will have to meet.
