Report: Burnley announce the signing of 23y/o star

Medical done; Burnley to sign 23-year-old in £1.9 million deal
Fabrizio Romano reports that Burnley has decided to sign Santos left-back Lucas Pires after his medical clearance from yesterday’s examinations.
After being demoted from the Premier League, Burnley will return to the Championship, and it appears like things are starting to come together.
The Clarets’ search for a new manager has been drawn out as manager Vincent Kompany was unexpectedly taken by Bayern Munich. But according to recent sources, Scott Parker is currently in advanced negotiations to become Turf Moor’s manager.
Given the expanding Parker connections, it appears that more fresh faces could be moving to Lancashire in the near future.

Reporter Fabrizio Romano writes on X that Burnley has reached an agreement to sign Lucas Pires, a left-back from Brazil who spent a loan with Cadiz in Spain. Pires is currently with Santos. According to Romano, a medical exam was finished yesterday.

The stated €2.5 million is equivalent to about £1.9 million, but it’s unclear exactly what Santos’ sell-on clause entails.

An essential augmentation

Burnley has been lacking in depth at left-back, so Pires’ addition will be appreciated.

Charlie Taylor, a defender with a long tenure, was offered a new contract to stay with Southampton in the Premier League, but he declined it. Because of this, the team doesn’t have a traditional left-back, however Vitinho and Connor Roberts are both adaptable players who can play on

Pires has a fair amount of experience, therefore he should be prepared to play championship football.

In addition to playing 69 games for Santos after graduating from their youth, he played for Cadiz in La Liga last season. The 23-year-old made 30 appearances there and scored the team’s lone goal against Atletico Madrid back in October 2023.

constructive motion
Following a difficult time following Kompany’s departure, Burnley appears to be beginning to bring their plans for the next chapter together.
Parker’s early appointment should really get things going for the summer, maybe starting with a move for Pires as part of their recruitment push.

It will be up to the next manager to keep a team capable of fighting for an instant return to the top flight, as more signings are required and important players may well leave after relegation.

The Clarets assembled a squad with a broad focus in an attempt to win the 2022–2023 league. When the summer officially gets underway, it will be interesting to see who else Burnley has on their radar. They appear to be doing the same with a move for a Santos full-back.
