Skysport Report: Swindon starlet agree deal to join championship giant for £1.5million

Middlesbrough are expected to win the contest for 16-year-old Swindon sensation Harley Hunt on a deal worth up to £1.5 million… after beating out Premier League rivals for his signature.

Several Premier League clubs have shown interest in the Swindon defender.

The 16-year-old defender earned his senior debut for the League Two club in April.

Middlesbrough appear to have won the chase for Swindon Town’s highly rated centre back, Harley Hunt.

Aston Villa and Southampton in the Premier League have been keeping an eye on the 16-year-old who made his debut for Swindon last season.

The 6ft 3in defender can play in both a back three and a back four, and his technical prowess on the ball has also allowed him to play in midfield.
Hunt is one of several young players who have benefited from the Swindon setup, which, under football manager Jamie Russell, focuses on giving youth an opportunity.

Boro, guided by Michael Carrick, think Hunt has the potential to step up and compete for a first-team spot.

Jonathan Woodgate, Carrick’s deputy first team coach and former England Real Madrid centre back, is also said to have played a role in persuading Hunt to make the transfer.

The sum is still being discussed, but Mail Sport understands it will be about £500,000, with an additional £1 million to follow. Hunt is supposed to understand

Hunt isn’t the only Swindon teenager gaining top-flight attention.

Their 17-year-old striker Botan Ameen was called up by Iraq to play for their U20s in the Asia Cup qualifiers earlier this month, and he has lately been watched by Manchester United and Wolves, among others.He will have a medical exam before signing his contract.
