Report: Falcons key player join Bengals in a blockbuster trade

Logan Woodside, an ex-Falcons quarterback, signs with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Atlanta Falcons signed quarterback Matt Ryan to a one-year contract on Monday, allowing him to retire with the same team that drafted him 16 years ago. Logan Woodside, a Falcons quarterback, has signed a contract with the

Cincinnati Bengals, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.Woodside, 29, joined the team in 2022 and served as Atlanta’s emergency third quarterback last season. He played in just two games and never threw a pass throughout the regular season. Woodside, a seventh-round pick by the Bengals in 2018, has now returned to the organization who drafted him.

The Falcons are likely to select a quarterback in the 2024 NFL draft as a developmental option behind Kirk Cousins and Taylor Heinicke. The Falcons traded Desmond Ridder, last year’s starter, to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for wide receiver Rondale Moore.

Atlanta owns the eighth pick in this week’s draft, and while we don’t expect them to grab a quarterback in the first round, it’s tough to rule out. The Falcons dispatched a delegation to observe Washington quarterback Michael Penix work out in Seattle. Additionally, the team met with Spencer Rattler, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and J.J. McCarthy.

The 2024 NFL draft begins on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
