Done Deal: Steelers Agree Deal To Sign $136.1 Million Star In Blockbuster Trade Proposal With Dallas Cowboys

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a few significant offseason moves and should be poised to make a run at the playoffs in 20224.

The organization cut ties with Kenny Pickett, who was projected to be the next franchise quarterback, and found a way to acquire two prospective high-level starting quarterbacks for nearly nothing. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields have demonstrated their ability to play at a high level, and the Steelers gave up nothing to get the new quarterbacks.

The Steelers boast the NFL’s longest-tenured head coach, who will remain with the team until at least 2027. On Monday, the team announced a three-year contract extension for head coach Mike Tomlin.

“Mike Tomlin’s leadership and commitment to the Steelers have been pivotal to our success during his first 17 years as head coach,” Steelers President Art Rooney II said. “Extending his contract for three more years reflects our confidence in his ability to guide the team back to winning playoff games and championships, while continuing our tradition of success.”

While the Pittsburgh Steelers have always been strong on defense, they will need to improve on offensive in 2024 if they are to make a postseason push in the very competitive AFC.

The organization traded Dionte Johnson to the Carolina Panthers. With Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback in 2024, it’s important to surround him with as many weapons as can to put up the offense for victory.

The Steelers do not have any wide receivers on their 2024 roster who had more than 209 receiving yards last season, except from George Pickens.

There were rumors that Pittsburgh’s brass was in talks to perhaps sign Bengals free agent Tyler Boyd, but current reports indicate that talks between the two sides broke down. Pittsburgh was also linked to San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, but so far it appears like the 49ers will work out a deal to keep him on the west coast.

But there is one high-profile wideout who would be the ideal fit to the Steelers offense with Wilson behind quarterback.

Pittsburgh Steelers Acquire CeeDee Lamb In Blockbuster Trade Proposal With Dallas Cowboys

If Pittsburgh wants to compete with Kansas City, Buffalo, the New York Jets, the Ravens, Bengals, and the rest of the AFC’s loaded rosters, they need a wide receiver who can take over a game no matter what the defense throws at him.

George Pickens has been solid since joining the Steelers out of Georgia, but he has demonstrated immaturity at times and has yet to establish himself as a genuine dominant No. 1 wideout.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could consider trading Pickens for Dallas Cowboys star WR CeeDee Lamb, potentially with a 2025 first round selection.

With two quarterbacks making nearly no impact in the wage cap, the Steelers can afford to pay a top wide receiver. Lamb wants to be one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL, and Pittsburgh should give him the contract Dallas hasn’t yet.

Lamb is coming off an All-Pro season in 2023, when he had 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. CeeDee Lamb is a player who can significantly impact a team, making him a valuable trade target.

The Dallas Cowboys would get a quality receiver in return and an additional first round pick next year where there’s a real possibility the team will go into rebuild mold. This is a win for both the Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers. While it may seem like a long shot, it’s impossible to rule anything out when it comes to Jerry Jones.
