Breaking: The Canes gain another critical commitment from highly-touted 4-star

Four-star cornerback Chris Ewald committed to the Miami football program over Georgia early on Thursday evening.

On Thursday evening, Miami football received a commitment from four-star cornerback Chris Ewald for the 2025 class. Ewald is the 2025 class’s 169th prospect, 21st CB, and 24th player in Florida, coming from Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna.

The only 2025 Miami pledges ranked higher than Ewald nationally in the class are tight end Brock Schott and running back Girard Pringle Jr. Mario Cristobal, co-defensive coordinators Lance Guidry and Derek Nicholson, and new secondary coach Chevis Jackson all saw Ewald as a crucial commitment.

Jackson led Ewald’s recruitment after being hired away from Marshall to Miami during the 2024 offseason. Ewald is the second cornerback and third defensive back in Miami’s 2025 class. Miami has previously gotten pledges from safety Amari Wallace and cornerback Timothy Merritt.

With the arrival of Ewald, Miami’s 2025 class moved up to 17th nationwide. Prior to the current uptick in commitments, the 2025 Miami class was in the 40s in the 247Sports composite. Miami has made CB a priority for the 2025 class. Ewald and Merritt were among ten CBs to pay formal visits to Miami in June.

Ewald selected Miami over Georgia. The Bulldogs welcomed Ewald for an official visit this past weekend. Although Miami was regarded as the frontrunner for Ewald immediately after he decommitted from Michigan in January, multiple recruiting outlets indicated that Georgia was making a late push for a commitment.

At 6’0, Ewald gives Miami the length that Cristobal prefers at CB. Ewald, who weighs 165 pounds, will need to develop muscle bulk. Ewald should have the opportunity to contend for substantial snaps as a rookie. Miami loses starter CB Darryl Porter, who will enter his final season of eligibility in 2024.

Miami does not have a lot of depth or experience at CB on its 2025 roster. Sophomore Damari Brown could be entering his last season with Miami in 2025 when Ewald is entering his final season. Brown will be eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft. Ewald will be one of the most highly-rated CBs on the 2025 Miami roster.
